Romantic Autumn Wedding at Hill-Stead Museum

July 25, 2025

Gabriella and Matthew’s wedding at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, Connecticut was the kind of day that unfolds with quiet grace and undeniable presence. Set against the soft glow of early October, their celebration blended modern elegance with heartfelt tradition—surrounded by lush gardens, timeless architecture, and the people who matter most.

As a Connecticut wedding photographer (and someone who also documents weddings throughout New York City and the Catskills), it’s days like these that serve as a reminder: beauty doesn’t have to be loud to be deeply felt.

A Setting That Holds History

The Hill-Stead Museum is one of those venues that doesn’t need dressing up. With its sweeping grounds, classic New England charm, and museum-worthy architecture, it offered a backdrop that was effortlessly sophisticated. Gabriella’s timeless lace gown, paired with simple calla lilies, fit seamlessly into the setting—elevated but never overdone.

The couple exchanged vows surrounded by nature and stone walls, their ceremony framed by warm afternoon light and a sense of stillness that felt rare and grounding.

Details That Let the Day Speak

From the outset, their wedding design struck a balance between softness and structure. Long tables under the tent were adorned with taper candles, sculptural florals, and climbing greenery that mirrored the natural surroundings. It was refined and intimate, not for the sake of formality but to create a space that invited guests to slow down, connect, and celebrate.

One of the most beautiful things about this wedding was how it felt grounded in real emotion. From teary-eyed embraces with grandparents to uninhibited dance floor joy, every moment carried weight.

A Celebration with Intention

Gabriella and Matthew are the kind of couple who radiate presence. You can feel it in the way they look at each other, and in the ease with which they move through a room. Their wedding wasn’t about putting on a show—it was about being fully in the moment, with each other and with the people they love.

The in-between, storytelling images that give the big picture of your wedding day are so important to me in my mission to create images that appreciate with time. I love getting to know my couples and their intricate relationships as well as writing my highlights from their unique day to supplement their photos. Here are some of the weddings I've been lucky enough to document as well as some words about what made their day so memorable for me.
